James Sherer is a property and commercial lawyer with over 40 years’ experience gained from working in some of NZ’s pre-eminent law firms as well as more than 10 years spent overseas with large commercial law firms in Stuttgart, Germany and in London and now, since 2003, with his own firm.

He advises in all aspects of business and commercial property transactions including sale and purchase of businesses and of properties, leasing, financing, employment, franchising and other commercial agreements.

James studied law in Germany thanks to a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and maintains his interest in German trade as a long-standing member of the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce

Having moved to Waiheke Island in 2000 he also has a strong presence on the Island advising wineries, the hospitality trade and other Island based businesses.

In addition to his Law degree, he has a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting from Auckland University so has a clear understanding of the financial and commercial aspects of any transaction.

James is team focussed and works collaboratively with a client’s other professional advisers to produce the best result for clients.

When not relaxing with a glass of fine Waiheke wine in hand, he will be found boating in and around the Hauraki Gulf with family and friends or visiting his adult children in Europe.

Hailing from the rugged moors of Yorkshire, Alastair has called the sandy beaches and beautiful scenery of Auckland home for more than two decades. Graduating from the University of Auckland in 2017, he has practised in the Law ever since. Though he maintains a broad set of legal skills and knowledge, his legal interests and experience have led him to focus on property, commercial, employment and estate planning.

Outside the law he is an active Scout leader who believes that all youth deserve the chance to develop their love for adventure and skills. As a father of two young children he also enjoys forging new memories with his family, time spent both in and on the water, exploring the depths of the bush or a peaceful moment with a good cup of tea and a book.
